Educators are one of the most important labor sectors, so from May 2024 the New Zealand Government will offer them the possibility of obtaining the New Zealand direct residence visa.

 

It is a visa that allows them to enter and live in New Zealand with a job offer from an accredited employer, with which they will be able to obtain permanent residence in a short period of time, according to the New Zealand Immigration Department.

 

How to apply for the New Zealand direct residence visa

Professionals interested in obtaining this visa can apply through the New Zealand Government's application website (click here), where they must log in or create an account to submit the application.

 

The application fee is NZ$4,890 (approximately $2.80 million) and, once the application is submitted, the turnaround time is five months, according to the visa information page.

 

New Zealand Direct Residence Visa Application Requirements

At the time of application, you must be under 55 years of age and meet the following requirements:

  • Provide an acceptable photo and personal data page of the passport.
  • Submit a police certificate of criminal record.
  • Demonstrate good health by means of a medical certificate.
  • English language proficiency, evidenced by international English language tests in which you have scored above 6.5 points (IELTS) or 79 points (TOEFL).
  • Have an accredited qualification on the New Zealand Green List of Roles, which must be certified by an International Qualification Assessment (IQA).
  • Have a job offer from an accredited, full-time employer that offers the average salary and requires the appropriate experience and qualifications.
