Italy has introduced a digital nomad visa for skilled professionals from around the world who work remotely.
Applicants for Italy's digital nomad visa must demonstrate an annual income of approximately €28,000, have health insurance, provide proof of accommodation and demonstrate at least six months of remote work experience.
The visa is aimed at individuals with a high level of skills and experience, including those with a three-year degree, professional qualifications or significant managerial experience in the IT industry.
Upon arrival in Italy, visa holders have eight days to request an appointment at the Italian immigration office to present the necessary documents.
The residence permit is valid for up to one year and can be renewed indefinitely, allowing visa holders to potentially obtain permanent residence in the EU and sponsor family members for reunification, provided they meet all requirements and have had no criminal convictions in the past five years.
This initiative is part of Italy's efforts to stimulate growth and counter problems such as depopulation in aging cities, in contrast to some European countries cutting back on their 'golden visas' for real estate investments.
