Obtaining permanent residency in the United States through marriage is a fast track, but it also carries risks if the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) suspects that the marriage is a fake.

Jacqueline, an immigration and family law attorney, recommends the following essential documents to prove the authenticity of the marriage during the USCIS interview:

  • Joint bank account with expenses for both spouses.
  • Joint tax returns.
  • Having three shared titles to property, such as cars or houses.
  • Have shared debts.
  • If you have children: birth certificate of children in common.
