Making the decision to start a new life away from home and loved ones is not an easy thing. Despite this, millions of people choose this path in search of a better future, and the United States continues to be the favorite destination for many. But where do migrants have the greatest chance of success and stability? A study has revealed that the best option is in Illinois.
The organization New American Economy, which defends the rights of migrants, carried out an analysis to identify the cities that offer the best opportunities to migrants, considering aspects such as politics, economic empowerment, inclusivity, legal support, job opportunities and habitability. According to this analysis, Chicago, Illinois, is the most migrant-friendly city, obtaining an overall score of 4.38 out of five due to its thriving economy, which offers good employment and development opportunities.
The study clarifies, however, that the best job opportunities are aimed at specialized professional profiles, especially in areas such as engineering, since they do not depend so much on tourism. If you think Chicago might be the right choice for you, just keep in mind its cold winters, with temperatures typically below 0 degrees Celsius from December to February.
In second place is Fremont, California, noted for its well-paying jobs, excellent educational options and a wide range of entertainment. Additionally, Fremont enjoys warm weather almost year-round, a low unemployment rate, and high levels of inclusivity and livability. However, the cost of living in Fremont is considerably high, being 80% higher than the US average and 34% higher than the rest of California.
The top three is completed by Chula Vista, also in California, which has seen its number of immigrants seeking opportunities grow in recent years. This place is distinguished by its government leadership, equal access, education, economic development and safe and connected communities, making it a good option for immigrants. With a growing Hispanic community, it offers good job opportunities that allow an excellent quality of life, considering elements such as access to housing, health care and quality education.
Since migration is crucial to the long-term prosperity of cities and the American economy, the New American Economy analysis presented a list of the 10 cities where migrants can fully integrate into communities and achieve well-being, highlighting that California you have three options.
