Updated Fees for U.S. Citizenship Application in 2025

As of April 1, 2024, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) implemented new fees for various immigration processes, including naturalization applications. These fees will remain in effect throughout 2025.

Current Naturalization Fees

The naturalization process requires the submission of Form N-400. The current fees are:

  • Online filing: $710
  • Paper filing: $760

These fees include biometric services; no separate payment is required for this component.

Discount and Fee Waiver Options

USCIS offers options to reduce or waive fees in certain cases:

  • Reduced fee: Applicants with household incomes below 400% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines may qualify for a reduced fee of $380. This benefit applies only to paper applications.

  • Fee waiver: Individuals facing significant financial hardship can apply for a full fee waiver. Supporting documentation of the financial situation is required.

Recommendations for Applicants

  • Verify eligibility: Before starting the process, ensure you meet all eligibility requirements for naturalization.

  • Prepare documentation: Gather all necessary documents, including proof of residence, criminal background checks, and others that support your application.

  • Consider legal assistance: While not mandatory, seeking legal advice can facilitate the process and ensure the application is completed correctly.
