Understanding the meaning behind the color of the sheet given at the end of the process is key to know the status of the U.S. visa process. Colors such as blue, pink, white and yellow can indicate different situations, from a smooth approval to the need to resolve a pending issue.

Section 221g

It is important to note that the consular officer may decide to deny the document based on Section 221g. This section states that the visa can be denied if there are errors or lack of clarity in the tax or financial documents, as well as if the employer information is unclear.

Receiving these sheets will not always mean a visa denial, but rather additional time or more information to validate the data submitted. 

The meaning of each sheet

Yellow sheets

• It does not mean a visa denial, but there may be additional time needed to review records that are still in the process of validation. This delay may be due to document transfers between offices. They indicate that the consulate needs more time to review the submitted documents.

Blue Sheets

• It simply indicates the need to submit additional supporting documentation to the consulate. This is a less serious case that can be resolved with proper submission of documents.

Pink Sheets

• An additional administrative process is necessary, and the importance of clear and detailed answers during interviews is emphasized to avoid this outcome.

• It is issued to applicants whose visas contain suspect information. This may arise if the applicant shows ambiguity about their formal qualifications, reasons for visit or working conditions. 

White sheets

• Indicate that the applicant did not provide complete or satisfactory evidence during the visa interview. They are assigned to applications that fall into the complex category of Section 221(g). In addition, they require additional processing by Uscis.
