The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has implemented a new policy to improve the experience for naturalization applicants. Announced recently on its website, this change includes the introduction of new electronic tools that streamline the process and enhance customer service, reducing wait times for responses and feedback.

Requirements for Citizenship

To become a U.S. citizen, foreign nationals must properly follow the processes and meet certain requirements, which vary depending on the application category. These requirements include maintaining a permanent resident status for three to five years, not violating laws, and demonstrating good moral character, among others.

Naturalization Process

The naturalization process is extensive, but by following each step and being patient, applicants can reach the Naturalization Ceremony, where they will receive their U.S. citizenship certificate. With the recent USCIS changes, applicants now have access to improved electronic tools to facilitate their online applications.

Availability of New Tools

As of June 12, 2024, these new electronic tools are available for certain applicants, specifically those self-petitioning under the following categories:

  • Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
  • T Nonimmigrant Status (victims of human trafficking)
  • U Nonimmigrant Status (victims of certain crimes)

These changes aim to protect the safety of at-risk applicants and ensure their processes are carried out without delays.
