Many people dream of visiting the United States, but the process of obtaining a visa can be complex. Fortunately, there is an alternative for citizens of 41 countries: the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). This program allows eligible travelers to visit the United States for up to 90 days without a visa, simplifying the process and eliminating extensive consular procedures.
Participating Countries
Europe: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Slovenia, Slovakia, San Marino, Portugal, Poland, Norway, Netherlands, Monaco, Malta, Luxembourg, Lithuania and Liechtenstein.
Americas: Chile.
Asia-Pacific: Australia, Brunei, Israel, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan.
Requirements for the VWP
To take advantage of the VWP, travelers must meet the following requirements:
- Be a resident of one of the countries involved.
- Have a valid digital passport..
- Complete the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) form at least 72 hours before the trip. The form costs $14 and can be completed online at this link.
- Not plan to stay in the United States for more than 90 days.
- Demonstrate financial solvency to cover expenses during the stay.
- Have no criminal record or previous deportation from the United States.
It is essential to keep in mind that the VWP does not constitute a visa itself, but rather an electronic travel authorization that allows entry to the United States through air or sea means. Additionally, final entry into the country is determined by Customs and Border Protection officers.
