To obtain US citizenship, it is essential to meet certain requirements, including passing an English exam and a civics test. The evaluation is conducted during an interview with immigration officials to determine the applicant's eligibility. Unlike the civics test, which includes a list of 100 questions, English ability is assessed through conversation with the officer, reading aloud and writing sentences.

Interview Tips:

A TikTok user, @argfeelitseeit, offers helpful tips for passing the naturalization interview. Simulate common questions like "What is your full name?" and "Why do you want to immigrate to the United States?" and suggests clear and concise answers.

English exam details:

  • Assessment of language ability during the interview.
  • Read aloud some sentences to show understanding.
  • Write one of three sentences correctly.

Civics exam:

It consists of correctly answering at least six of ten questions about US history and government. Those over 65 years of age and with more than 20 years as residents can study only 20 specific questions.

Exceptions:

Individuals with physical, developmental, or mental disabilities may be exempt from both exams by submitting Form N-648 completed by a certified medical professional.
