The permanent residence card is valid for 10 years

Permanent legal residence in the USA is accredited with a Green Card, identification that allows checking the status with which immigrants can live and work permanently in the country.

To request the renewal or replacement of your card, use the Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, available on the website www.uscis. gov/espanol. You should also review whether it is necessary to pay the $455 fee and $85 for biometrics.

USCIS automatically extended the validity of the Green Card to 24 months for legal permanent residents who present the Form I-90, to avoid complications in case the new card takes a while to arrive.

Legal permanent residents who present the Form I-90 appropriately to renew a Green Card that is about to expire or has already expired will be able to receive this extension, previously the extension was valid for 12 months.  These are the steps to renew:

• Fill out the renewal application online or by mail.
• Have supporting documents.
• Pay government fees, if necessary.
• Send the application and wait for the arrival of the new Green Card.
